The Latino Studies 'zine is probably my favorite project I've worked on with this department! The 'zines are often handed out at student-facing events alongside other promotional items and offered as an introductory resource for anyone who isn't already familiar with what Latino Studies offers. This 'zine is a refreshed adaptation of a preexisting booklet created by another designer in the department back in 2019. In past years, the 'zine had a landscape 5x7 orientation, which felt more awkward to handle. I opted for a vertical 4x6 orientation, a more natural book-reading format, and wanted it to have a "pocketbook" feel that encourages people to carry the booklet with them as a fun keepsake that is also informational. In addition to the change in orientation, I collaborated with our Communications Program Administrator to update the copy and the graphics are a blend of illustrations by the previous designer who created the 'zine and my own additions made to match the style of the originals. The previous 'zines had mid-tone green, red, and blue covers which felt very dark and uninviting. I chose brighter hues (from Neenah's popular Astrobrights collection) that more closely reflect the department's visual identity and colors often associated with Latino Studies in other materials we produce.
